Séminaire
Space weathering of the Moon and Phobos
Quentin Nenon
LATMOS seminar.
Description
Space weathering refers to the alteration of an airless surface by the space environment, including sunlight, micro-meteoroids, and space plasmas. The seminar will start with an overview of known and unknown effects of space weathering on the Earth Moon and on the Martian moon Phobos. A particular emphasis will then be given to the ion environments encountered by the two natural satellites and how those can alter reflectance spectra and in-situ samples. Finally, the comparison between the Moon and Phobos will be leveraged to draw conclusions for other airless bodies, including Mercury and asteroids.
