Introduction
JIPSL(Jeunes engagé.e.s de l'IPSL) is a group gathering early career people of various labs and campuses across Ile de France to explore alternative ways to act on the climate emergency. It brings together PhD students, engineers, post-docs and others on a voluntary basis to reflect and share on our practices and responsibilities as workers in the field of climate.
Organisation
The group is organized in working subgroups dedicated to specific actions. We gather monthly all together to discuss our progress, our challenges and share insights. In between meetings, we communicate using WhatsApp and a mailing list.
The current working groups are the following — although any initiative to start a new group is welcome!
- Debunking: collaborating with associations to debunk misinformation
- Media training: organizing media training sessions to learn how to answer journalists’ questions on climate issues
- Outreach: giving talks on climate and environmental issues in schools
- Political actions: connecting with climate activism organizations and organizing “political coffees”
- Paper: writing an academic article on scientific neutrality
- Seminars: organizing seminars on societal impacts and research ethics; next topic: “scientific expertise as a form of engagement”
- Link with C2S: bringing ideas to the Climate and Society Center (C2S) and sharing updates from C2S; we also help organize the C2S annual day
- Recruitment: reaching out to early-career researchers across IPSL labsWe also have social events to discuss informally.
