Climate change impact on water availability in the Tsanfleuron aquifer (Swiss Alps)
Philippe Renard (University of Neuchâtel)
Séminaire du LGENS.
Description
Alpine regions are among the most affected by climate change’s impacts. In this presentation, I will show how water availability could evolve in the region of Tsanfleuron in the Swiss Alps. This site combines a rapidly retreating glacier overlying a karstic aquifer that feds a spring used for water supply by the municipality of Conthey.
The characterization of the system involves several aspects, from estimating the volume of the glacier using geophysics and spatial statistics, to constructing several models allowing to forecast the evolution of water availability.
I will show that our preliminary assessment and models provide highly uncertain forecasts, and discuss how we could improve them.
