Le président de la COP28 a déclaré, lors de la session finale, « Together, we have confronted realities, and we have set the world in the right direction. We have given a robust action plan to keep 1.5°C within reach. It is a plan that is led by science » (traduction rapide, « Ensemble, nous avons fait face aux réalités et nous avons orienté le monde dans la bonne direction. Nous lui avons donné un plan d’action solide pour maintenir l’objectif 1,5 à portée de main. Ce plan s’appuie sur la science. »).

Parmi ses décisions, la COP28 a produit le premier bilan mondial de l’Accord de Paris sur le climat, avec un volet explicite sur la transition énergétique, un cadre de référence pour la résilience, à horizon 2030, et définit les modalités de mise en œuvre du nouveau fond pour les pertes et dommages.

Comment l’état des lieux scientifique issu notamment du 6^e cycle d’évaluation du GIEC se reflète-t-il dans ces décisions, et quelles sont les failles qui ont été introduites dans les formulations ? Quelles sont les implications de ces décisions pour les besoins de connaissances en appui à l’action pour le climat ?

Among its decisions, COP28 produced the first global assessment of the Paris Climate Agreement, with an explicit section on the energy transition, a reference framework for resilience up to 2030, and defined the modalities for implementing the new loss and damage fund.

How are the scientific findings of the IPCC’s 6^th assessment cycle reflected in these decisions, and what flaws have been introduced into the wording? What are the implications of these decisions for knowledge needs in support of climate action? What are the key milestones defined within the UNFCCC framework for 2024, 2025, and the timetable for the next global assessment? I invite you to discuss these points.
