High-impact events, tipping points and consequences
A joint workshop organised by the PMRC and the GIEC (November 26-28, 2025)
The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are co-organising a workshop in Paris from 26 to 28 November, which will bring together international experts to discuss and reach consensus on issues related to high-impact events, tipping points and their consequences.
This invitation-only event is organised by the Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace (IPSL) and hosted by Sorbonne University in Jussieu. It will bring together leading international experts from multiple disciplines to reach consensus and address urgent issues related to high-impact events on the Earth system, tipping points and their consequences. Their discussions will focus on the risks associated with sea level rise, prolonged droughts, glacier melt, biodiversity loss and other critical changes to the Earth system, as well as how these events affect ecosystems and human systems, or could be prevented through mitigation measures.
This workshop provides a unique bridge between PMRC science and the authors of IPCC assessments. It will take place ahead of the first meeting of lead authors (LAM1) from all IPCC working groups and will support and enrich discussions in the context of the IPCC’s Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) and the related PMRC assessment of high-impact climate events, tipping points and irreversible regional impacts.
