Inspiré par les appels à « résister au désastre », Fabien Esculier a bifurqué en 2014 de l’administration du Ministère en charge de l’environnement vers une tentative de recherche-action systémique et transdisciplinaire portant sur un impensé collectif des sociétés occidentales : la gestion des urines et matières fécales humaines.

Initié à METIS et basé sur des analyses de biogéochimie territoriale, le programme OCAPI est désormais devenu un centre national de ressources sur la collecte sélective et la valorisation agricole des excrétats humains.

À l’occasion de la parution de son livre Une autre histoire des excréments chez Actes Sud https://www.leesu.fr/ocapi/bibliotheque/les-productions-docapi/une-autre-histoire-des-excrements/, Fabien Esculier reviendra sur les principaux résultats du programme, les manière de tenter une recherche-action transdisciplinaire à visée transformative à l’Anthropocène et les espoirs de changement d’échelle incarnés par le récent colloque-anniversaire des 10 ans du programme OCAPI (https://10-ans-ocapi.sciencesconf.org/).

What can we create today that might eventually serve as a resource for those who come after us?  asks philosopher Isabelle Stengers. Inspired by calls to E2809Cresist disaster,  Fabien Esculier shifted focus in 2014 from administrative work at the Ministry of the Environment to an attempt at systemic, transdisciplinary action research addressing a collective blind spot in Western societies: the management of human urine and feces.
