Description

Abstract

In this seminar, the potential and limits of electric and electromagnetic method for geomaterials characterization will be presented. The first part of the seminar will be focused on the technical aspects of these measurements with a special focus on the high frequency range (above 1 MHz). The different approach to model the measured electrical properties will also be introduced.

The second part of the seminar will consist of a series of example of different type of geomaterials dielectric characterization: rocks and cementitious materials. In the third part of the seminar, the potential of the method will be illustrated through a typical geotechnical problem: soil densification. Finally, in the last part, some results of ultra-broadband measurements (mHz to GHz range) of clays will be presented.

Biography

Thierry Bore was born in Strasbourg, France, in 1983. He received the master’s degree in acoustics from the University of Paris VII, Paris, France, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree in metrology from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris, in 2011. He has been a Research Fellow with the School of Civil Engineering, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, since 2015.

His research interests include the experimental and numerical analysis as well as the theoretical prediction of the ultra-broadband dielectric relaxation behavior of complex systems, such as geomaterials, for the development of advanced near and subsurface sensing and imaging techniques.

Dr. Bore was a recipient of the ARC (Australian Research Council) Discovery Early Career Researcher Award on the further development of dielectric spectroscopy for soil characterization in 2018.
