Earth Day: a day to raise awareness of the ecological transition

To mark International Earth Day, celebrated every April 22, IPSL is reaffirming its commitment to the energy transition, with a special focus this year on wind power.

Since 1970, April 22 has become a worldwide rallying point for the planet. EarthDay informs and raises public awareness of environmental issues and the actions needed to address them.

As in previous years, a central theme is chosen to encourage initiatives. After “Sustainable mobility” in 2024 and “Investing in our planet” in 2023, this year’s theme is “Our energy, our planet”.

By focusing on energy, this 55th edition underlines the problems associated with fossil fuels. Coal, oil and natural gas are responsible for some of the CO2 emissions released into the air. Together, they make a major contribution to climate change. To meet these challenges, France is aiming for a 47.5% reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, compared with 2005 levels. To achieve this, renewable energy is at the heart of our strategies. Whether it’s solar, wind or hydroelectric power, every source of green energy plays an important role in reducing our carbon footprint.

This year, IPSL is rediscovering renewable energies, starting with the wind turbine. This machine uses the force of the wind to produce energy thanks to the movements of the blades and a generator.
