Laboratoire organisateur : LMD
Date et heure : 21-11-2013 10h45
Lieu : Campus de Jussieu, Salle de conférence, Tour 46-56, 2eme étage
Résumé :

Geoengineering technologies include plans to spray sulphur compounds into the upper atmosphere to reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the planet and the transformation of the chemistry of the world’s oceans so they soak up more carbon. These ideas sound like science fiction, but they are being developed now as possible responses to global warming. The IPCC will report on them next April.
Clive Hamilton describes the science involved in some of the leading climate engineering technologies, including the potential risks. And he discusses the lobby that is beginning to argue for geoengineering as a response to climate change. He also comments on some of the ethical implications of plans to regulate the climate system.
