Séminaire

Titre : Autonomous observations of gases, particles, and clouds from the Arctic sea ice
Nom du conférencier : William Simpson
Son affiliation : University of Alaska, Fairbanks
Laboratoire organisateur : LATMOS
Date et heure : 17-01-2017 14h00
Lieu : Campus de Jussieu, Salle de réunion du LATMOS, tour 45-46, 4ème étage, salle 411
Résumé :

We deployed fifteen autonomous Multiple-Axis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) sensors on the Arctic sea ice, each of which drifted roughly a year reporting observations, often at multiple locations, over the past five years.  After a brief introduction to the method and its strengths and limitations, I will share scientific findings on the role of heterogeneous chemistry and vertical mixing on bromine monoxide (BrO) events in the Arctic. We have recently begun deriving cloud and aerosol vertical profiles from these observations and will highlight collaborative opportunities for research between these ground-based observations, modeling, and satellite-based observations.
