Résumé :

This work address server side computing for selected core functions and is part of the CONVERGENCE project founded by French National Research Agency (ANR).
The OpenGIS® Web Processing Service (WPS) Interface Standard provides rules for standardizing geospatial processing services, such as polygon overlay. The standard also defines how a client can request the execution of a process, and how the output from the process is handled. Data required by the WPS can be delivered across a network or they can be available locally to the server.
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is aimed to provide access to climate data for the international climate community. IPSL holds a replication of global and regional climate models output and observational data (CMIP5, CORDEX, obs4MIPs, etc) that are available on the IPSL ESGF node and that can be use as input for the WPS.
In order to evaluate how scientists could perform model analysis without downloading vast amount of data a Web Processing Services (WPS) were installed at IPSL compute node (yet in test regime).
The aim of the seminar is to present the WPS architecture at IPSL along with processes (core functions) that are available for model evaluation performance, on-site diagnostics or post-processing analysis of model outputs, e.g.:

  • regriding/interpolation/aggregation (single model or ensemble of the models)
  • ocgis (OpenClimateGIS) based polygon subsetting
  • average seasonal cycle, multimodel mean, multimodel mean bias etc.
  • calculation of the climate indices with icclim  library (CERFACS)
  • ESMValTool (model diagnostics and performance metrics)

We will show examples of the front end usage as well as example of the processes (core function) code behind it. Another objective of the seminar is to discuss the needs of the scientific community for such a service and define necessary/desired core-functions to be implemented at IPSL ESGF compute node.
