Résumé :

The history of Red Sea relative sea level change and of the concomitant migration of its shorelines is of interest and importance for a number of reasons. One is the examination of pathways of human dispersal out of Africa. Another is the provision of quantitative constraint on long-term rates of vertical tectonics. A third is implications for global sea level change. All require that the process of glacio-hydro-isostasy is understood and quantifiable. This seminar will develop an internally consistent palaeo-geographic reconstruction of the Red Sea basin that provides a framework for discussing tectonic rates and dispersals out of Africa.
