Séminaire

Titre : Climate data set of upper tropospheric humidity from microwave sounders
Nom du conférencier : John Viju
Son affiliation : UKMO
Laboratoire organisateur : LMD
Date et heure : 14-04-2010 11h00
Lieu : Salle de réunion du LMD/Jussieu
Résumé :

Despite its importance in our climate system, upper tropospheric humidity (UTH) is a poorly measured quantity. This talk will focus on the use of data from microwave humidity sounders for creating a data set of UTH for climate monitoring. First part of the talk will introduce the retrieval of UTH from measured radiances, the impact of clouds on microwave UTH and the use microwave UTH to estimate the clear-sky bias in infrared UTH data sets. Second part of the talk will focus on application of the data sets for monsoon and MJO studies. Finally, the inter-calibration of different humidity sounders and some plans for Megha-Tropiques will be discussed.
