Résumé :

The combination of water vapor, temperature and Doppler lidar instruments allows for characterizing the thermodynamic state of the atmosphere with very high resolution in space and time. The resulting new data sets are especially interesting for the validation and improvement of model parameterizations. During a recent field experiment in Germany, we have combined for the first time a scanning water vapor differential absorption lidar (WV DIAL), a scanning rotational Raman lidar (RRL) with a scanning Doppler lidar. First results of the experiment will be presented.

This activity is embedded in the project HD(CP)2 (High-definition clouds and precipitation for advancing climate prediction). HD(CP)2 aims at simulating clouds and precipitation at a scale of 100 m and below. Such resolution offers the possibility to leap over the so-called grey-zone encompassing the scales of boundary layer and convection parameterizations in weather and climate models. The HD(CP)2 Prototype Experiment (HOPE) was designed to provide data for the evaluation of the model simulations at this scale. The HOPE region encompasses about 10 * 10 km2 and took place in western Germany between April 1 and May 31, 2013.
