Résumé :

After the sustained impact of commercial whaling cetaceans face challenges of recovering their populations in a rapidly changing ecosystem. The Antarctic Peninsula is warming rapidly and sea ice conditions are changing such that there are fewer ice covered days each winter. Our long-term research program has studied the fine and broad scale distribution, behavior, and ecological role of baleen whales around the Antarctic Peninsula in order to better understand how the impacts of climate change may change the structure and function of this marine ecosystem. In this presentation I will share our research efforts and development of new technology to describe the ecological role of baleen whales around the Antarctic Peninsula.
